Insurance

By law, moving companies are required to provide basic liability coverage for every move at no charge. This type of insurance, often called limited liability, is covered in the base price and does not cost you any extra money. It is the most economical option available and your goods are covered to no more than $0.60 per pound per item when it comes to an interstate move. Although, the coverage for local moves is commonly $0.30 per pound, it can vary from state to state.

Loss or damage claims are settled based on the pound weight of the item multiplied by $0.60. Therefore, for example, if you have a 10 pound TV and it is destroyed in shipping, you would be entitled to a total of $6.00 for the replacement of the TV. This amount of money will definitely not replace the TV, so think carefully before agreeing to this coverage. If you agree to this option for insurance coverage you will be requested to sign a specific statement in agreement on the bill of lading. Also, you can look into your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance policy. You may be covered for moving! If not, check the cost for your insurance to cover you. It may turn out to be more cost effective for you due to your existing relationship with your insurance provider. If you acknowledge that your homeownerโ€™s policy does not cover moving or does not provide enough coverage, you may consider moving insurance. American Quality Movers has a cargo insurance policy that covers every long distance shipping up to $1,000,000.
